BULLET TRAIN MOVIE PLOT

A former professional assassin codenamed "Ladybug" resumes work with a newly optimistic attitude after recently attending therapy over being haunted by numerous accidental deaths in his line of work resulting from bad luck. He reluctantly is tasked by his handler, Maria Beetle, to acquire a briefcase aboard a bullet train traveling from Tokyo to Kyoto in place of her usual contact, Carver, who is forced to call out due to illness. The case, holding $10 million ransom, is in the possession of hitman brothers "Tangerine" and "Lemon", hired by the infamous "The White Death", head of the world’s largest crime syndicate who took control of the Japanese criminal underworld by storm, to recover it and his kidnapped son. The brothers find their employment to be suspicious as the White Death specifically contracted them for their participation in a job at Bolivia.

Meanwhile, in the First Class portion of the train, assassin Yuichi Kimura confronts another code-named "The Prince" over her hospitalizing his son, only to learn she lured him into the train to help her kill White Death and forces his assistance by revealing she arranged an associate to finish the boy off: rigging the briefcase and Kimura’s gun with explosives to kill White Death, who is notorious for executing people with their own weapons. Ladybug steals the briefcase but is kept from leaving the train when ambushed by another assassin, code-named "The Wolf", who had arrived seeking revenge for the poisoning of his wife and his entire cartel during his wedding. The fight ends with the Wolf dead after being stabbed in the heart by his own knife and breaking his neck on the briefcase. At that time, the brothers find the briefcase missing and White Death's son killed with boomslang poison - the same poison that massacred the guests at Wolf's wedding. The Prince manipulates Tangerine into believing Ladybug was responsible, with Ladybug forced to subdue Lemon after a failed negotiation attempt while drugging the water bottle with sleeping powder and then accidentally freeing a boomslang snake from its cage.

Ladybug is later found by Tangerine with the two fighting to a stalemate, Ladybug attempting to help him convince White Death’s men that his son and the briefcase are safe, but fails when Ladybug's bad luck exposes their cover with Ladybug knocking Tangerine out of the train at the next stop. Ladybug then encounters the Wolf’s intended target, "The Hornet" — an assassin who uses boomslang venom, responsible for the poisoning at the wedding, and was hired to kill the White Death's son. Having killed a concession girl to ditch her earlier disguise, Hornet attempts to kill Ladybug with the two both being poisoned in the struggle. Ladybug takes the Hornet's only dose of antivenom, and she dies instead.

At the same time, Lemon becomes suspicious of Kimura and the Prince and shoots the former before he succumbs to the drugged water bottle with the Prince shooting him multiple times. Climbing back inside the train, Tangerine finds his brother’s body and confronts the Prince, after Lemon previously marked her as someone suspicious using a Thomas the Tank Engine sticker. The Prince manipulates Ladybug into fighting Tangerine, resulting in him being fatally shot in the neck. Kimura’s father, "The Elder", boards the train and reveals himself as a former Yakuza lieutenant whose wife and clan were killed in White Death's rise to power.

Ensuring his grandson’s safety by having the Prince’s associate killed, he and Ladybug find Kimura and Lemon still alive, the latter having worn a bulletproof vest, as they all prepare for the ambush awaiting them. The train arrives in Kyoto, and Ladybug is met by White Death and his men. The Prince, revealed to be White Death’s disgruntled daughter, tries to goad him into firing Kimura’s booby-trapped gun, but he instead tells her she was never part of his plan. As Ladybug comes out with the briefcase as a diversion, White Death reveals that he hired all the assassins aboard the train as revenge for his wife's death. While White Death was forced to travel to Bolivia after Tangerine and Lemon massacred his men, his wife got mortally wounded by Carver as he was hired to kill White Death. White Death's wife died soon after the only surgeon that could have saved her life was poisoned by the Hornet. White Death arranged for all guilty parties involved, including the Wolf, to kill each other. Before the White Death can kill Ladybug, who reveals that he took the job in Carver's place, the briefcase bomb is triggered, knocking them both onto the train which Lemon sets back in motion.

As the train speeds out of control, the Elder duels White Death while Kimura and Ladybug fight off his henchmen. Lemon tackles a thug off the train into the river below, and the train derails, crashing into a nearby town. Ladybug is held at gunpoint by White Death, who ends up killing himself when Kimura’s gun explodes. Ladybug, Kimura, and his father are confronted by the Prince, who gloats that her luck is what resulted in the White Death’s demise. As she proclaims herself to be the new White Death, the Prince is run over by Lemon driving a truck carrying tangerines. Maria arrives to rescue Ladybug, who has fully embraced a positive outlook on life and fate.
